What Is Vocal Massage/ Manual Therapy?
Vocal Massage Therapy (VMT) is a technique integrating therapeutic massage; laryngeal manipulation, myofascial release, and assisted stretching to soothe and release the soft tissues which support the vocal mechanism, ultimately helping to improve vocal quality and reduce vocal fatigue. This form of manual therapy can be a beneficial practice for individuals looking to maintain vocal health and improve their speaking or singing abilities.
VOcal Massage Can Help witH:
Muscle Tension Dysphonia
Globus (a sensation of a lump in the throat)
Preventing injury and improving vocal stamina and flexibility
Loss of range
Jaw and tongue root tension
Swallowing dificulties
Alleviate reflux symptoms
Awareness of the connection between mind, body and instrument.
Pain free and person centred care
I truly believe that VMT can, and should aim to be, pain free. Many singers who are pursuing help will likely be in significant discomfort physically and emotionally. Adding to that pain isn’t conducive to real and sustained recovery and could indeed cause further damage.
I take a Biopsychosocial approach as a vocal coach as well as my practice in VMT. You are the expert of your body and experience, and together we will seek to bring release, comfort and restoration of vocal function at your pace.
